Bible - Giving in Secret: Part One

Tonight a new website was launched that will really help those in need during these hard economic times. The website is www.almsinsecret.org

Now you may be wondering what in the world is an alm. According to Webster's Dictionary published in 1828 an alm is any thing given gratuitously to relieve the poor, as money, food, or clothing, otherwise called charity. (see note #1)

The alms in secret website takes it's idea from Matthew 6:1-4 of the King James Bible (see note #2). It allows a person to give money to someone that they know is in need without the recipient knowing who sent it. The person who gives is notified when the person they give to receives their gift. I think this is a great way to help our fellow man.

Note #1:
Definition of Alms: ('ALMS, 'amz. [Eng. almesse; L. eleemosyna; Gr. to pity.])--Any thing given gratuitously to relieve the poor, as money, food, or clothing, otherwise called charity.

Note #2:
Matthew 6:1-4 (King James Version of the Bible)
1-Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2-Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3-But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4-That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
