Proverb for the Day - Solomon's Proverbs

Today is Sunday, April 25, 2010. I have chosen verse one today because it tells us where the rest of the proverbs in this verse come from. Proverbs 25:1 says that these proverbs are from King Solomon which were copied by King Hezekiah's men. King Hezekiah was a King of the small nation of Judah. He did not rule over a larger portion of the Israelites that went into captivity separate from the nation of Judah. You may wonder why I am giving so much detail about this. It is because we erroneously think that modern day Israel is the same as the Israel that came out of Egypt. They are only a portion of the Israelites that came out of Egypt. Many of the tribes lost their identity when they were captured and taken out of their land when they refused to obey God. Hmmmmm makes you wonder who they are and where they went. Now that could open up a whole new can of worms. The only people that we can identify as Israel are the tribes that were part of Judah.

  1. The presence day Israel is certainly very different from the Biblical Israel.
I cannot imagine what King Solomon would think if he knows that the presence day Israel is famous for its spy network. It is one of the best in the world.

  2. Well now that is an interesting thought. In Exodus (I think) the Israelites sent spies into the land when they were in the wilderness and only two came back with a good report. This happened many years before Solomon. I guess there is a long history of practicing this skill. :)
